In certain instances, a case may be referred to the Monroe County Medical Examiner (ME) for comprehensive medicolegal death investigation services including autopsy and post-mortem toxicology.
Coroners also play a role in developing the county’s mass casualty/fatality plan in preparation for catastrophic incidents which could be caused by natural, accidental, criminal, or infectious means.

Pre and post-diversion program for youth arrested for or accused of harm in Tonawanda. Diverts youth away from Family Court in the Town of Tonawanda, both before and after arrest. Youth are given the option of a Restorative Conference, where the responsible youth and their support people meet with those they’ve harmed and community members to discuss the impact of the crime and what might repair the harm. If the youth fulfill their Conferencing Agreement, their charges are dropped.
