The IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) / Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. VITA/TCE sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including people who generally make $70,000 or less per year, persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers. In-person and Virtual services are available to taxpayers through appointments only. Dates, times, and locations will vary, and taxpayers must complete the VITA/TCE Appointment application to be scheduled for an appointment. This course is designed for individuals whose English is at least at a high-beginning level (ELI Level 3+). Students will learn about American history and government to prepare them for the civics portion of the exam, and will practice their English skills to prepare for the reading, writing, and speaking portions of the exam. By the end of the course, students will also be familiar with the structure of the Citizenship interview.
