The Town of Newburgh Friends of Seniors is a program that is affiliated with the Town of Newburgh, the Orange County Office for the Aging and Jewish Family Service of Orange County. We train and screen volunteers to take our seniors to doctor appointments, shopping or just a friendly visit to a homebound senior.

Operates 7th through 8th grade classes.

Offers a bereavement support group for parents and grandparents who have lost a child. The 8-week support group is open to all in the community, free of charge and is facilitated by a licensed Certified Social Worker.

Provides a hotline for anyone to call to begin an investigation on animal cruelty complaints throughout the county. Animal cruelty in New York State is considered the intentional effort to hurt or kill a companion animal or the failure to provide food, water, shelter or necessary veterinary care. Also assists complaints of animals which have attacked people or other animals.

Provides transportation via Jitney for senior citizens who have no other means of transportation to doctor appointments. Also provides transportation for senior citizens who have no other means of transportation to predesigned food shopping centers. Handicapped van provides medical transportation for the handicapped. All transportation service only within boundaries of Brookhaven Town. The fare is $3.00 round trip.

Offers after-school recreation programs for elementary school children. Transportation is provided by the school district. Program not available during summer/holidays/vacations. Program is sponsored by the Town of Islip.

The Merakey Center for Hope is a youth drop-in center for young people ages 11-21 who live in the city of Newburgh, NY. This program is available after school and offers many workshops, including ceramics, music, dance, photography, creative writing, and more.

SAIL provides loans of assistive technology and durable medical equipment through its TRAID/EI project. TRAID is Technological Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities. TRAID is the busiest department in SAIL on a daily basis. Each day dozens of people come into SAIL in Queensbury or Ballston Spa seeking to borrow medical equipment for someone who has a disabling condition.

Offers home purchasing, refinancing, and foreclosure counseling.

Family Defense Unit which helps parents navigate the challenges of the Child Welfare system. Help with CPS investigation against parents; clearing parents name at the State Central Register for child abuse and neglect; neglect and abuse court cases; permanency planning court cases and termination of parental rights.

The Housing Resource Center provides services for Yonkers residents, that educate tenants, prevent eviction, end homelessness, and improve living conditions for singles and families. For over 20 years, we have been assisting households with a wide range of services, including: professional guidance to prevent evictions, code enforcement for improved housing conditions, emergency assistance for displaced families, tenant education and training short-term financial assistance with intensive case management for qualifying households.

Maintains information on recycling stations for certain household materials, chemicals, etc., and curbside pick-ups for recyclable materials and other items.

Provides patients with the highest level of rehabilitation services for adult and pediatric patients recovering from an injury or condition. Physical therapy helps increase strength, improve mobility, restore physical function and relieve pain. Physical therapists provide research-based therapeutic techniques and advanced technology to help patients attain the best possible results.

Offers volunteering opportunities to members of the community. Volunteers are needed to walk dogs, help with cats, perform various clerical duties, work in the kennels and help with fund raising, public relations etc. Call for details. Must be 18 years of age.

Offers a alcohol/drug day treatment program for pregnant or new mothers, with comprehensive assessments, counseling, psychiatric evaluations and monitoring, acupuncture, on-site child care, parenting classes, home management workshops, transportation to and from the program, case management, employability/education groups and services for all family members.
