Investigates the control and the spread of mosquitoes through surveillance of mosquito breeding areas, preventing the development of adult mosquitoes, trapping adult mosquitoes, responding to complaints, treating infested areas and testing the trapped mosquitoes for presence of disease. Also Nassau County DOH investigates all reported animal bites. Nassau County Public Health law requires that pets be vaccinated against rabies. This includes, but is not limited to, dogs, cats, and ferrets. Medical providers treating a person who has suffered an animal bite are required to report the incident to the Department. To report a bite incident, please call 516-227-9663 during normal business hours or 516-742-6154 after business hours and on weekends. The Putnam County Victim Impact Panel is a collaboration between NCADD Putnam, Putnam County Probation, STOP DWI, and the Walter Hoving Home. The purpose of the program is to impact DWI/DWAI offenders and others deemed appropriate by the judicial system, and to provide restorative benefits to victims speaking as panel members. The speakers talk briefly about an impaired driving crash in which they were injured, or in which a loved one was killed or injured, and how it has impacted their lives and the lives of their families. Other panel members include people in recovery, emergency services providers, police officers, or even a DWI/DWAI offender.

Eligible seniors can receive a total of 5 meals weekly from the Congregate Nutrition Program, the Home Delivered Meal Program or a combination of the two. A voluntary contribution of $2.00 per meal is suggested. Meals will not be denied if no donation can be made. Please call for information.
