Investigates the control and the spread of mosquitoes through surveillance of mosquito breeding areas, preventing the development of adult mosquitoes, trapping adult mosquitoes, responding to complaints, treating infested areas and testing the trapped mosquitoes for presence of disease. Also Nassau County DOH investigates all reported animal bites. Nassau County Public Health law requires that pets be vaccinated against rabies. This includes, but is not limited to, dogs, cats, and ferrets. Medical providers treating a person who has suffered an animal bite are required to report the incident to the Department. To report a bite incident, please call 516-227-9663 during normal business hours or 516-742-6154 after business hours and on weekends. The Council meets semi-monthly to approve various resolutions, ordinances, and other measures including the City’s annual budget. City Council Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 pm on the *6th floor of City Hall. All Council meetings are recorded and posted on the City’s City Council Meeting Webpage. The Council holds a Good and Welfare session after every regular meeting giving residents the opportunity to address the Council on any subject matter that is within the jurisdiction of the City Council and that does not appear as a regular agenda item.

In addition, the agency provides spay/neuter services to tens of thousands of feral animals, while assisting the residents of Suffolk County by providing for the health and safety of their pets. Our peace officers are both active and retired law enforcement personnel who enforce the New York State Agriculture and Market Law with regard to the prevention of mistreatment and cruelty to animals. TASC Connect! provides tutors and online tools to support adults seeking a high school equivalency diploma, which is obtained by taking the TASC Exam (Test Assessing Secondary Completion). The Court Liaison Unit includes the Preventive/Post Institutional Project, and Reach for Peace (Gang/Violence Protection). These programs provide legal advocacy, case management and counseling services to youth in the adult/juvenile criminal justice system who are under age 21 and reside in Long Beach, Island Park, East Atlantic Beach, Lido Beach or Point Lookout. Advocates alternatives to incarceration and provides transitional services for youth returning to the community from residential placement

Offers shelter residence in Blue Point to homeless females ages 16-24 who are parenting and their children. Counseling and referral service for youth and families in crisis. Agency provides on-site child care.

Provides short term, intensive care for acute psychiatric disorders geared towards women, such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders and psychotic disorders, and other mental health problems complicated by addiction or medical illness.

Clinician-staffed telephone support and outreach intervention to anyone in Ulster County in need of emotional support or crisis intervention. Ulster County Mobile Mental Health operates from 10:00 am - 10:00 pm Monday-Sunday including holidays and can be reached at 844-277-4820.

Provides financial aid to patients and their families through the Patient Aid Committee which determines eligibility. Assistance includes lab fees, drugs, x-ray therapy, and extra ordinary expenses not covered by medical policies. Aid based on need and availability of funds.

The Putnam County Victim Impact Panel is a collaboration between NCADD Putnam, Putnam County Probation, STOP DWI, and the Walter Hoving Home. The purpose of the program is to impact DWI/DWAI offenders and others deemed appropriate by the judicial system, and to provide restorative benefits to victims speaking as panel members. The speakers talk briefly about an impaired driving crash in which they were injured, or in which a loved one was killed or injured, and how it has impacted their lives and the lives of their families. Other panel members include people in recovery, emergency services providers, police officers, or even a DWI/DWAI offender.

Family court handles domestic relations cases, divorce, nullification of marriages, legal separations, paternity actions, child custody, child support, visitation arrangements, spousal support and restraining orders. Also offer marriage and family counseling or mediation to help couples to reconcile or to reach an amicable agreement on a custody plan.

Offers food baskets of holiday foods to low income individuals and families for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Also accepts donations of holiday foods.

Delivers frozen meals weekly to those who are unable to prepare meals, have difficulty shopping for food and have no one available to assist them while they are incapacitated or recuperating from an illness or accident. Eligible seniors can receive a total of 5 meals weekly from the Congregate Nutrition Program, the Home Delivered Meal Program or a combination of the two. A voluntary contribution of $2.00 per meal is suggested. Meals will not be denied if no donation can be made. Please call for information.
