Provides individual and group therapies for survivors of sexual assault or other crimes. Offers criminal justice interventions and assistance with all entitlements.

Is offered to students in 7th through 12th grades in selected school districts. STEP is designed to motivate and prepare financially disadvantaged and underrepresented minority students for careers in science, technology and mathematics-related disciplines, along with licensed professions such as nursing and accountancy. Academic activities that encourage critical thinking, along with intensive instruction in mathematics, science and computer science, are teamed with support services such as counseling and tutoring. This provides a nurturing environment which builds self-esteem as it prepares minority and disadvantaged students for entry into STEM and licensed professions. Services include 16 enrichments sessions in: Science and science research (biology, Genomics/microbiology, physics, earth science, engineering, robotics, nursing/allied health); Math; Communication skills; Leadership; Computer applications; Career awareness; Research program; School-based "club" meetings and Parents' Advocacy Group. The Program Eligibility: Students accepted into the program must meet the guidelines of NYSED, and will include those who have been identified as underrepresented minorities (African-American, Latino, Hispanic-American and Native-American) and/or financially disadvantaged students in grades 7-12. Thrift shop offering seasonal clothing for men, women and children as well as "knick-knacks", small household goods and toys. Items are for sale at nominal prices and those who are unable to pay even our low prices receive items gratis. They also welcome donations of seasonal merchandise. Open Thu, 10:00 am-2:00 pm.

Provides temporary, supervised transitional housing for teenagers 16-21 who do not have family support. The program also offers case management, life skills training and employment/ vocational counseling.

All other communities in the Town of Hempstead are serviced by either private companies or villages. The department offers tours and lectures at its East Meadow facility. This service is available to schools and senior groups, among others. If you are in need of assistance paying your water bills, the New York State Low Income Household Water Assistance Program assists low-income households who are in arrears on water bills.

Tempo Group is a licensed provider of social worker continuing education and is a NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services certified education and training provider. Trainings are offered for professionals in the field of substance abuse as well as the community at large. Trainings are geared towards the education, prevention and treatment of substance abuse disorders. Trainings are held at the agency or arrangements can be made to provide trainings at other facilities. Additionally, Tempo Group’s skilled and professional staff members are available to provide education regarding substance abuse prevention, intervention and treatment to a company’s Human Resources and/or Employee Assistance Programs, as well as Long Island school districts. Upon request, Tempo Group can design and provide an educational program to meet the needs of a company, agency, or school. Additionally, Tempo Group is a Department of Health NARCAN trainer and provider. NARCAN training can be provided to communities, schools, or companies.

Helps individuals get names of doctors for either general or specialized care.

Offers outpatient programs and a wide range of services by mental health professionals. Our staff includes psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers and activities therapists. Patients can join individual, group and family psychotherapy, and we offer specialized services for depression, anxiety and childhood emotional disorders. Specific programs include: Adult Psychotherapy Program for individual or group therapy; Family and Children's Program offering individual, group and family psychotherapy for children and their families and Options for more intensive care at South Nassau: Partial Hospitalization Program, five days weekly; Intensive Outpatient Program, three days weekly and Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit. Holds summer programs at neighborhood recreation centers for grades K-6. Holds a half-day playground program for preschoolers on Tuesday and Thursday or Mon, Wed, Fri. Holds a recreation day camp for ages 7-12 and a counselor-in-training program. Call for place, time, and fees. Fall programs for adults and children include LEAP after school program, programs for 3 and 4 year olds, after school recreation (arts and crafts, physical fitness, story times, consumer education, sports programs and pools). Buildings rented out for parties--fees vary. Provides a wide variety of cultural programs for children and adults, including crafts, music instruction, Kid in Nature, Children's Theater Workshops, dance programs, Americana Fair, Summer Concert Series, Creative Writing Workshop, Atlantique Beach Camps, trips, fairs, Snapper Derby, fairs, festivals, specialty camps, special events and sunset cruises.

Monitors new building conditions and construction and oversees the maintenance of older multi-family structures. Enforces the state and local building codes and housing standards and ordinances. Reviews applications for permits of new buildings, repairs, alterations, signs, and rooming houses. Accepts complaints from tenants about conditions the landlord fails to resolve.
