Independent Living is a member of the Statewide Systems Advocacy Network, a group of eighteen independent living centers throughout New York State which collaborates with other disability organizations to ensure that legislation affecting people with disabilities is introduced, passed by the Legislature and signed into law by the Governor.

Provides a tuition free school that is chartered by New York State to provide preschool, elementary and high school programs to 177 students in grades Pre K-12 with disabilities with CPSE/CSE referral. The school also operates infant assessment, parent training, and student recreation programs. Serves ages 0-21 with CPSE/CSE referrals, except for swim program.

The Town of North Hempstead and your local licensed taxi companies are proud to offer transportation services for non-emergency medical visits and food shopping to senior residents 60+, and disabled residents 21+ who qualify. Brochures are available in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, Farsi, and Creole. Food shopping taxi program (no charge for rides) provides transportation twice a week to local stores, on weekdays only, between the hours of 10am-2pm. If the rider has an aide, they may ride for free. Medical, dental or treatment appointments that are classified as non-emergency offer deeply discounted rates each way. Rides are available on weekdays, except major holidays. If a rider has an aide they may ride for free.
