Pursues litigation in areas such as: housing, public accommodations, military, public policy, parenting and relationship issues, equal marriage rights, equal employment and domestic partnership benefits, and immigration issues.

The building department monitors new building conditions and construction, and oversees the maintenance of older multi-family structures. Also enforces the state and local building codes, housing standards and ordinances, to the review of applications for permits of new buildings, repairs, alterations, signs, and rooming houses, in addition to electrical and plumbing work. The building department accepts complaints from tenants about conditions the landlord fails to resolve.

A tax-aide program that offers free tax preparation services, as well as one-to-one tax counseling, and assistance on the telephone and online to help low and middle income individuals and seniors prepare their tax forms, including with EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) for those who qualify.

Processes applications for a variety of public health insurance programs, including Medicaid for certified disabled individuals, individuals ages 65 and older, prenatal care services (presumptive eligibility), Medicaid buy-in for Working People with Disabilities, and the Medicare Savings Program.
