Resources include: 2 hot laminators, 1 cold laminator, poster printer, button/magnet maker, Ellison Die cuts, and a technology lending program (Chromebooks, IPads, Google Expedition goggles, Robotic's kits, and Z Space laptops). Offers a 15-credit program for current teachers who wish to expand their area of teaching expertise. With the study of the methodology and pedagogy of teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, current teachers will enhance their existing skills in addition to learning new ones. A practicum setting is required as the capstone experience for this K-12 TESOL certification. Teacher candidates who successfully complete this Advanced Certificate program would be eligible to take the NYSED certification examinations for the K-12 TESOL initial certification. Offers the Advanced Certificate program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL, K-12). This mostly online program is designed to accommodate the scheduling needs of Suffolk County teachers. The Advanced Certificate program prepares you to help children in all grades overcome language barriers and learn how to speak the English language effectively. You will also develop a greater awareness of the special needs of children in multilingual/multicultural school districts. The 22-credit Advanced Certificate in TESOL, K-12 is for students who already have teaching certification in another area. The program leads to eligibility for initial and professional NYS Certification in TESOL, preparing students to teach English to speakers of other languages in K through 12 classrooms. In order to meet the New York State Education Department's licensing requirements, students must have taken, as part of their general education course work, 12 semester hours or the equivalent of study of a language other than English. If this requirement is not met on admission to the program, it can be met concurrent to the student's completing program requirements. Call for more detailed information.

Offers a certificate extension program which is suitable for teachers who have basic certifications in Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education, Childhood Education and/or Childhood Special Education, and Secondary Education. The courses offered are appropriate for teachers who, in addition to English, are proficient in another language and who wish to continue their expertise in teaching by acquiring knowledge and developing competencies working in a bilingual classroom or as a teacher of students with speech and language disabilities.
