Whether you’re interested in greeting and directing visitors or assisting with various other tasks, NYU Langone’s Volunteer Services can match you with the right opportunity. NYU Langone volunteers commit to a single four-hour shift per week, for a minimum of nine consecutive months. As a general rule, hospital volunteers are required to maintain a regular schedule, working on the same day, at the same time, every week. St. Charles Hospital Volunteers are compassionate, caring people who help provide a positive hospital experience for patients and their families. They serve in a number of capacities including assisting in clinical departments or at the Gift Shop, Nursing Rehab Center, Outpatient Rehab Clinics or other services. From a welcoming voice to a friendly face giving directions, volunteers help make St. Catherine Hospital a warmer, more caring place. Volunteers need to be 15 years of age or older and able to commit at least 3-4 hours per week for a minimum of six months. Positions are available seven days a week with a variety of shifts. We try to match volunteers with opportunities based on their interests, talents and availability. But assignments change often and not every position is always open. We welcome high school and college students during their summer break. It is a great opportunity to gain insight into a medical setting. Summer program volunteering spans from mid-May/early June until mid-to end of August. Spots are limited and fill quickly. We recommend applying no later than mid-spring in order to be considered. All positions require students to be professional and mature, able to work with other volunteers and staff, and provide great customer service. Offers a college internship program for students who have a strong interest in law enforcement and/or are currently enrolled in criminal justice courses. This unique program is designed to give college students hands on experience with all of the different units our agency has to offer, including popular visits with the Marine Bureau, Firearms, and K9 units. The interns also witness how outside agencies work hand in hand with one another as they visit units run by the Suffolk County Police Department, the Office of the Medical Examiner, and the Suffolk County Legislature. Interns visit both correctional facilities, the firearms range, the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course, the Suffolk County Crime Lab, the Warrant Squad, and the Domestic Violence Bureau. These visits allow students to work alongside officers in each area to give them knowledge, experience, and help them to make informed choices about a career in law enforcement. The Internship Program runs during the spring, summer, and fall semesters. Spring and fall semesters run for 16 weeks and the summer semester runs for 13 weeks. Offers Adult Volunteer opportunities which are available throughout the year for those who are seeking ways to serve the community while satisfying their need to give back and help others. Adult Volunteer opportunities include the Ambassador Escort position where volunteer's escort outpatients and visitors through the hospital to designated appointments, units and departments. Clerical duties are also available. In addition, positions are available for Student Volunteers ages 18 and over; who are exploring careers in clinical/patient healthcare settings, when available and approved by department director. Junior Volunteer opportunities are available for high school students 15 to 17 years of age. A commitment of 3 hrs per week for a minimum of 2 months is required between June and August. Available positions include Ambassador Escort, Office duties, assisting Patient Experience Team with assorted projects as needed. Clinical positions do not apply to Junior Volunteers. NODA (No One Dies Alone) and Spiritual Compassionate Companions. Program volunteers will spend time with patients who are on comfort care and in the end stage of life, when their families are unable to be with them. The Spiritual Compassionate Companions volunteers will spend time with Palliative Care patients who may have no family/friends or support systems but who are still seeking active treatment. Pet Therapy program is available for canines that have been certified by Pet Partners, Good Dog Foundation or Love on a Leash. Canine health records and proof of liability insurance must be submitted with the volunteer application. Pet Therapy Volunteers must complete the necessary application process and be observed and cleared by Pet Therapy Coordinator prior to volunteering.
