The Office of Special Education provides assistance related to services and programs for students with disabilities. Staff work to provide the most up to date policy and guidance, technical assistance, professional development, and monitoring to attain equal opportunities and positive results for students with disabilities across New York State.

Assists after school and youth programs in obtaining and implementing evidenced-based programs. COPE specifically is designed o help children, teens and young adults deal with anxiety, stress and depression by teaching them how to develop the skills needed to stop negative or unhelpful thoughts and start thinking, feeling and behaving in more positive ways.

Identifies natural leaders within the community and provides them with family life information and community development strategies, enabling them to educate peers and participate in community planning/development.

Provides employment and training services including job counseling, testing and assessment; resume preparation assistance, interview training and other pre-job guidance services; job matching and referral; labor market and career information; information on financial aid for education and training.

Meals are delivered to clients in the following areas: Stony Brook,The Setaukets, Port Jefferson,Port Jefferson Station, Miller Place, Poquott, North Coram, North Centereach, North Selden, North Lake Grove, Terryville, Mt. Sinai

Provides employment and training services including job counseling, testing and assessment; resume preparation assistance, interview training and other pre-job guidance services; job matching and referral; labor market and career information; information on financial aid for education and training.

Provides funding to nonprofit organizations serving Westchester that have submitted applications and are eligible based on the guidelines for the grant. Also provides consultations to nonprofit organizations on how to better financial or technical assistance issues.

Provides programs and services to assist entrepreneurs and aid already established small businesses in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Offers management and technical assistance, business planning, financing, counseling, access to federal contracts and a variety of loan programs.

Provides information and technical assistance to local municipalities and individuals to develop affordable housing plans that will receive broad-based community support. Also provides workshops for the general public on affordable housing issues.

Provides technical assistance to agencies and individuals to develop new programs for people who have developmental disabilities.

Recipients of these programs may include individuals, corporations, partnerships, cooperatives, public bodies, nonprofit corporations, Indian tribes, and private companies.
