Works very closely with the 12 participating municipalities and various non-profit agencies to develop an Annual Action Plan for use of block grant funds, a multi-year Consolidated Plan, as well as affordable housing and community development projects which meet the needs of each member community. Citizen input is very important in this process. Public hearings are held in each municipality during September, October and November of each program year. Citizens are invited to request funding for eligible activities at the hearings. Once the hearings have been held, the towns and villages decide which projects are to be funded and the County prepares the application for submittal to HUD. The Community Development Office manages the implementation of approximately 250 active projects throughout Suffolk County on an annual basis. Projects include construction and rehabilitation of community parks, streets, sidewalks, community and senior centers, public services, water main installations, handicap accessibility, housing rehabilitation and downtown revitalization.
