Qualified instructors develop lesson plans that may involve riding, driving, or ground-based activities (e.g., grooming, handling, leading, observing). Through these activities participants can attain individualized horsemanship skills, and allow for the natural benefits of working with horses. No formal diagnosis is required for participation in our riding programs. HorseAbility’s lessons are open to all riders of any ability aged 3-adult.

Mounted lessons may take place in the indoor or outdoor arenas or along our sensory trail. We have a wheelchair lift to mount riders with mobility issues & have volunteers who serve as leaders and side-walkers as needed. All activities and timing will be tailored to the rider’s individual needs. Lessons are typically 45 min, with 30-45 minutes on the horse. First-time riders at Topfield must have their individual needs assessed by our Instructional and Program staff before the first lesson. This is an additional booking that will need to be scheduled before the mounted lesson.

ADRC’s Equine Therapy Program runs one outing per month. They take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A bus leaves and returns to AERC headquarters. Participants travelling directly to Blossom Hollow Farm should plan to arrive by 10 a.m. Casual dress, “outdoor” shoes, and a change of clothing are recommended, as some activities take place in the farm’s stables. A boxed lunch is served.
