Seeks to strengthen English language skills for women 21 and older who speak languages other than English, build confidence in performing daily tasks, develop a cultural understanding among those who represent various nationalities, languages, and religions, assess and improve performances in math, reading, and writing skills, and assist participants in acquiring a GED in English and Spanish. Affiliated with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Brentwood, Brentwood Public Schools and Brentwood Public Library.

Offers citizenship classes, ESL classes, relocation moving assistance, employment placement services for newly arriving refugees, and case management to assist with obtaining immigration documents. Also provides a support group for refugees who are victims of domestic violence.

Offers Character Education Series for preschool-high school audiences. Topics include Anger Management, Bullies/Teasing, Friendships, Suicide/Depression, Substance Use/Abuse, Diversity/Tolerance, Self-esteem, Peer Pressures, stranger awareness, expressing feelings and more. Available for Health Fairs, Awareness Days, Community Events, and Facilitator/Staff Trainings.

Provides educational workshops and continuing education opportunities for professionally certified and qualified sign language interpreters as well as professional development workshops for educators of the deaf, emergency responders, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, childcare professionals, and employers.

Provides numerous types of training workshops and consultations in conflict resolution, prejudice reduction, and leadership development for teachers, students, and organizations all through its national and regional offices.

Works to promote positive intergroup relations between various groups represented in Nassau County. With a growing diverse population, this unit, as well as many of the staff, has been very active in coordinating conference seminars, and addressing positive human relations. This unit of the commission actively responds to bias incidents in all communities of the county. The Multicultural Programs provides programs concerning diversity issues and multicultural awareness for employers and community groups in Nassau County. Information regarding programs can be obtained by contacting the Community Relations Unit. The Commission on Human Rights also provides Afro-Americans cultural enrichment seminars, which have been introduced to various school districts, universities, and youth organizations in Nassau County. The Afro-American Ensemble has performed and demonstrated to many and various groups, the intricacies of African dance and music. Provides conferences to help girls focus on their futures. LaTeenA: Claim Your Future! - Brings Latina girls together to embrace their common strengths and assets. Through interactive workshops, college tutorials, and exposure to successful Latina role-models, LaTeenA provides girls with information, resources, and tools that enable them to envision a future that includes college, a career and financial security. A Man Is Not a Financial Plan - This empowering conference teaches high school girls how to manage money and inspires them to be proactive about their futures. Workshops challenge teens to differentiate between wants and needs teach girls the importance of creating a budget; and give girls the opportunity to work together in groups to imagine their own financially independent woman.

A program that works in collaboration with schools, which are workshops designed to build knowledge and skills of team work, communication, conflict resolution, self-esteem and diversity, so that their schools and communities are safer and more productive places for themselves and their peers. After 25-30 hours of intensive training youth develop strong relationships and a sense of community that they will carry with them for years to come. The program strives to allow young people to use their voices to express their concerns, fears and dreams within a safe environment.

Works on year round programming to promote black history and culture in the Town of Brookhaven through events and community outreach. Events include annual Juneteenth and Kwanzaa programs as well as cultural film screenings and discussions and other special events. Provides an after school program to promote academic support and cultural enrichment for African-American and Latino students in middle and high school. Students receive homework assistance, academic intervention, and participate in field trips and forums that promote cultural and self-awareness issues.
