Helps resolve and prevent racial and ethnic violence and disorder, and to diffuse potentially explosive situations in schools and communities through mediation and conflict resolution. This regional office services New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and Virginia.

Offers conflict resolution skills including, but not limited to, learning different conflict management styles, active listening skills, reflecting, dealing with emotions, and understanding other points of views. These skills are attained by mediator skills training, peer mediation training, family trainings, and group facilitation.

A program that works in collaboration with schools, which are workshops designed to build knowledge and skills of team work, communication, conflict resolution, self-esteem and diversity, so that their schools and communities are safer and more productive places for themselves and their peers. After 25-30 hours of intensive training youth develop strong relationships and a sense of community that they will carry with them for years to come. The program strives to allow young people to use their voices to express their concerns, fears and dreams within a safe environment.

Works with students, teachers and staff by providing age-appropriate training in communication, conflict resolution, violence prevention, victim awareness and empathy, anger management and mediation. The programs address the basic communication problems shared by many youth, assisting them to develop fundamental life skills.

Promotes non-violent conflict resolution techniques to educators, parents and young people workshops on restorative practices, conflict resolution concepts, communication, affirmation, mediation, bullying prevention and intervention, creative problem solving, bias awareness, social emotional learning and mediation services.

There are three forms of counseling done at the Haverstraw Center through the Reachout program: individual, family and group counseling.

Provides neutral alternative dispute resolution programs to help people solve conflicts, no matter the situation or setting. The Center does not provide direct legal representation or advocacy services but can provide referrals to the agencies providing these services. Mediation can:

• Help parties with civil and family legal issues who are looking for an alternative to court
• Help couples looking to get divorced and or separated
• Help landlords and tenants work out non-emergency issues
• Help parents and schools agree on special education matters
• Help employees and employers resolve conflict
• Help neighbors restore harmony in the community
• Help families handle issues with teens, siblings, and aging adults
• Help parents work out custody and visitation arrangements

Services are offered virtually, over the phone, and in person. In addition to mediation programs, the Center collaborates with local civil legal services providers to offer holistic legal services for victims of crime in Erie, Niagara, and Genesee Counties. Center staff will work with victims to identify legal issues and to discuss pathways to achieving justice. The Center also offers Education and Training workshops that provide skills-based trainings, consultation, and coaching services.

In a four-session conflict resolution program for second graders, trained prevention educators use role play, stories, games, and music to help students learn skills to recognize angry feelings and resolve conflicts peacefully. Students learn to verbalize through "I" messages, control frustrations with "cool off" techniques and find verbal solutions to prevent aggressive behaviors.

Provides support to fathers who are getting ready to be released from jail,are ex-offenders, or on probation and want to be a better dad and provider to the family. The program identifies each father's challenges and links them to community resources. Participants attend a 12-session workshop where they will learn, practice and strengthen specific parenting skills, communication, conflict resolution, anger management, including financial literacy training, pre-job skills, resume writing, interviewing skills, and employment support to help improve their economic stability.

Provides support services to women who are affected by the incarceration of their spouse or significant other, and are caring for their children. These women can access peer support, receive counseling, and attend a unique weekend workshop, Loving Out Loud, which focuses on relationships with incarcerated men and solutions-based counseling.

Provides a puppet performances for pre-K school children that promotes mental health, prevent substance abuse, address gang involvement and teach conflict resolution.

Offers a program that focuses on African American and Hispanic elementary school boys with emphasis on academic enrichment, cultural diversity, health and nutrition, conflict resolution training and fun recreational activities.

Provides opportunities for domestic violence victims transitioning to self sufficiency, to get involved in the community through various activities, such as summer outings, picnics, holiday celebrations, reading groups, teachings in mediation, nutrition, relaxation housekeeping, etc., along with learning to network with others.

Provides information about the Disease Concept of Addiction, characteristics, effects and consequences. Also offers a 12 week Anger Management/Conflict Resolution Psycho-Educational Series. Classes are conducted in both English and Spanish.

The Anti-Bullying Initiative is designed to raise awareness, prevent and reduce bullying. It provides youth with opportunities to learn about bullying and how to respond to prevent and decrease bullying in their schools.

Provides age appropriate primary prevention programs to schools and youth groups (K-12) focuses on refusal skills, conflict management, character building, life skills, drug education, decision making, and problem solving skills. A DBT Booster Group focusing on friendships, conflict-resolution, bullying, self-esteem, and coping and communication skills. Male groups can be formed if there is enough interest.
