Staff assist with sorting through medical insurance needs. We provide Medicaid and Medicare (A,B,C,D) benefits counseling, EPIC, Lifeline telephone discount, low income subsidy, part D prescription benefits, Medicare Supplemental insurance, Employer insurance benefits, Veterans benefits, Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA), Medicare Savings Program, and more.

Services covered include inpatient and outpatient hospital care, physician services, skilled nursing care, laboratory and x-ray services, early and periodic screening of children, home health care services and transportation services. Provides a full range of entitlement counseling, including Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Benefits, tax abatement, educational lectures, and on-going care givers support groups. Program also includes a referral service for home care assistance and non-emergency medical transportation. A food pantry is available to those who are eligible on Wednesdays and Fridays.

There are 60 physical locations throughout NYS for in-person assistance, a call center (1-844-614-8800) for the entire state, and a website icannys.org. ICAN currently serves MLTC plan enrollees and mainstream Medicaid managed care enrollees who receive long term care. Call for detailed information.

Processes applications for a variety of health insurance programs including Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care, Family Health Plus (FHP), and Prenatal Care Assistance Program (PCAP), Family Planning Benefits Program (FPBP), Baby/Adult Diaper Assistance, Medicaid Buy-In for Working People with Disabilities (MBI-WPD), and the Medicare Savings Program (MSP). Also provides transportation for Medicaid recipients requiring Medicaid-covered services.

Program assists those ages 60+ with benefits such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Food Stamps (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), Home energy Assistance programs (HEAP), Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC), Senior Citizen real property tax exemptions (STAR), and PSEG Critical Care program.

The Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) supplies people over 60 with counseling regarding Medicare A, B and D, QMB, SLMB, retiree health plans, other health insurance, medigap policies, long term care insurance, claim processing, EPIC, etc. THe Office for the Aging needs volunteers for its health insurance counseling helpline.
