The department is also responsible for enforcing the Suffolk County Sanitary Code and the Local Laws of Suffolk County. The Environmental Health unit is responsible for inspections of all public pools and bathing beaches to ensure compliance with Part 6 of the New York State Sanitary Code. Inspections are done on a quarterly basis for year-round facilities and monthly for seasonal facilities. Additionally, the unit investigates all complaints, whether general and or illness related to the facilities.
