Emphasis is placed on improving cognition, sensory motor skills development and use of adaptive equipment to aid movement and independence. Students placed in the 12:1:4 class component are dependent upon staff for meeting their needs throughout the school day. Classroom instruction is provided with hand over hand assistance. Related services of speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy are provided on a group push-in basis. All students are assessed using the New York State Alternate Assessment. The Academic Center Middle School Program services students with learning and behavioral disabilities. The primary goal of the program is to maximize each student's potential. Program components include instruction that is comprised of the general education curriculum and which supports the Common Core State Standards. Behavior management, self-advocacy and social skills are addressed. A building-wide behavior management plan is an integral part of the program. Functional assessments and behavior intervention plans are implemented for support when needed. Programs are offered at various locations.

Offers Brookhaven Learning Center at Samoset Middle School which is an included site program of the Brookhaven Learning Center. The Brookhaven Learning Center provides a continuum of services for students with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. Offers Transition Services Program at Brookhaven Learning Center which is an included site program of the Brookhaven Learning Center. The Transition Services Program provides a half or full day, applied academics program, which emphasizes life and employability skills, to students with mild to moderate developmental disabilities. By utilizing a variety of simulated and real-life settings, students are prepared to transition from school to post-secondary outcomes. Included in the Transition Services Program is the Work Activities Center (WAC) for students sixteen to twenty-one, who meet established criteria, to have a volunteer work experience in the community under the direct supervision of a job coach. Serves students ages 14 to 21 in grades 9th - 12th at the Secondary Level. The Brookhaven Learning Center is offered at various locations.

The school program provides students with developmental disabilities with specialized education, medical and therapeutic services. The program includes an individualized education plan, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, assistive technology training, nursing and social work services, psychological counseling, animal assisted therapy and music therapy.

A technical assistance and information center offers free information and referral services to parents and professionals for children (birth-5 years), who have special needs. Areas of assistance include parent training, education and referrals to: evaluation, infant stimulation, preschool special education, therapy (physical, occupational, speech) mental health services, support groups, financial entitlements and recreation, to ensure that children are linked to appropriate services and supports in the least restrictive environment/natural settings. Also provides community training and eduction for general and special education early childhood professionals.
