Assist federal agencies with the investigation of cases and the development of strategies/protocols which have shaped the approach of government in dealing with human trafficking in agriculture in New York.

Provides a number of support services for anyone who is a victim of labor or sex trafficking. Services include confidential emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, court assistance and accompaniment, safety for pets left behind, transportation, translation and referrals to other services or resources that will be needed. Also provides multilingual and culturally focused services for members of the African American, Asian, Haitian, Latino, Jewish/Orthodox, and LGBTQ communities.

Works to create a more effective and efficient response to youths who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation or trafficking, or who are vulnerable to it.

Provides a working partnership with local law enforcement, FBI, ICE, and numerous other community partners to identify, rescue, and restore victims of forced labor and sexual exploitation.

Coordinates with the Chautauqua County Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Team to respond to child physical and sexual abuse cases to reduce trauma to children and non-offending family members and stewards of children. Offers a prevention and response training for adults. Provides trauma counseling and problematic sexual behavior counseling for children 17 and under.

Promote community awareness and develop a comprehensive and coordinated service delivery system to meet the varied needs of exploited/trafficked youth.

Offers the first of its kind in the country operating from inside a correctional facility. S.A.T.I. has been pioneering the campaign against human trafficking from the correctional standpoint by establishing a comprehensive and effective response to the crime. The unit works in collaboration with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies by developing and forwarding intelligence gleaned from the correctional facility setting. In addition, they refer victims and work closely with advocacy groups in efforts to assist the victims on their road to recovery. The principal objectives are to ensure that all victims of human trafficking who pass through our facility are identified, have access to the services they need to recover, and are supported throughout their long-term journey as survivors. The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office has designated teams of officers in our Human Trafficking Unit tracking activity within our Correctional Facilities as well as in the community. Provides a systems-level, trauma-informed approach to the prevention and identification of commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and child trafficking, and provides services to survivors of CSEC and child trafficking. Leverages existing local resources to create a more efficiently coordinated response for youth who have been identified as survivors and those considered at-risk. The Safe Harbour Coordinator is responsible for streamlining Chautauqua County's Safe Harbour policies and procedures, educating allied professionals and community members to recognize the signs, and raising awareness about child trafficking and CSEC.ess about child trafficking and CSEC.

The Bureau contains two specialized units: The Human Trafficking Unit and the Elder Abuse Unit. The Elder Abuse Unit investigates and prosecutes any crimes of physical violence against persons 65 years or older committed by family members or caregivers, whether in a facility or at home. The Unit is a part of the Nassau County Enhanced Multi-Disciplinary Team that works with Adult Protective Services, Nassau County Office for the Aging, and other agencies that collaborate to review allegations of suspected elder abuse, provide support and resources for victims and their families, and prosecute cases when appropriate. The Human Trafficking Unit is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all Sex Trafficking charges and any prostitution-related crimes. It also handles cases pending in the Human Trafficking Intervention Court, where individuals charged with Prostitution and similar offenses are provided with assistance and services. The Human Trafficking Unit offers constant training to ADAs, members of law enforcement and the community in order to help identify these cases early and prevent trafficking within Nassau County.
