Eviction Assistance: Provides help to low income who are qualified for subsidized housing and section 8 choice vouchers. For those who may not be qualified for subsidized/section 8, provide older adults, veterans, domestic violence, LGBQT, breast cancer, or individuals diagnosed with AIDS who may be a target for eviction. Landlord/Tenant Dispute Resolution: Aids individuals struggling with their landlord for reasons ranging from eviction, living conditions, recurring problems, etc. Foreclosure Assistance: helps advocate for individuals with mortgage foreclosure with guidance through the legal process and representation, if needed.

Provides opportunities for refugees and immigrants to set up plots of land to farm and plant culturally appropriate vegetables and food. Education on the planting environment, assistance selling produce, a goat farm project to raise and sell goats, and literacy classes are offered.

Self-Direction offers people the flexibility to choose the mix of supports and services that are right for them. Self-Direction increases options and choices, and enhances opportunities for personal decision-making while creating the freedom to select services and who can provide them.

Offers phone and personal one-on-one counseling to help homeowners keep their homes, establish financial stability, and learn strategies to avoid foreclosure proceedings in the future.

LAS provides services to aid in foreclosure prevention, tax foreclosure, predatory lending or other related foreclosure issues.

Through an agreement with the Westchester County’s Department of Social Services (DSS), FSY manage benefit payments, such as Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for Westchester residents who need assistance managing their finances. We also provide Representative Payee services privately on a fee-for-service basis.

A not-for-profit public interest firm providing free legal services to low-income individuals and families in Western New York. NLS aims to create the greatest access to the justice system for low-income individuals and those living with disabilities to pursue goals that will increase both the stability and the quality of their lives. Offers services in the following areas:

• Housing (evictions, unsafe conditions, housing choice vouchers, discrimination, landlord/tenant concerns)
• Family (DV, family offense petitions, custody, visitation, divorce, child and spousal support, paternity)

Assists with consumer legal issues including bankruptcy, frozen bank accounts, debt problems, student loans, ID theft, car problems, and utility shutoffs.

Provides assistance to low and moderate income homeowners facing foreclosure and settlements.

Classes help participants learn more about locating community food assistance programs, developing spending plans, food shopping strategies and unit pricing, saving money away from home, container gardening and much more!

Allows individuals and their family to have decision-making authority over the services that the individual receives to live independently. Offers a support team of three professionals to provide fiscal intermediary services, and support brokerage with the choice of independent or agency brokers (when availble).

Financial education and workforce development to empower Black Long Islanders by addressing systemic economic disparities. Services include: Financial Coaching and Wealth Building Support (short and long-term savings planning, retirement and investment education, debt reduction and credit improvement strategies), Homeownership and Asset Building (guidance on qualifying for home loans and navigating the home-buying process (budgeting and savings plans to prepare for homeownership, support in overcoming historical housing discrimination barriers), Workforce and Career Development (job readiness training, interview preparation, and career advancement coaching, strategies for income growth and career mobility, employer partnerships to connect participants with higher-paying opportunities), Personalized Financial Planning (each participant receives a customized plan tailored to their unique financial situration and goals, one-on-one financial coaching sessions ensure ongoing support and guidance).

Provides civil legal services regarding housing issues, consumer problems, income security/benefits, and language access.

Provides fiscial intermediary services for individuals who want to self-direct their OPWDD services.

Provides housing counseling for landlord/tenant-rights and responsibilities, security, rent payment increases and eviction situations, habitability, handicap access, and mortgage counseling to homeowners. Pre-purchase, pre-rental and mortgage default predatory lending counseling. Serves both Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Please call for appointment.

Focuses on supporting the integrity, safety, and well-being of low-income families by maintaining economic stability. Provides legal assistance to persons who experience problems with public benefits programs that are administered by the local Department of Social Services, including: Welfare (TANF and Safety Net), Medicaid, Food Stamps (SNAP), Child Care Assistance, HEAP, Emergency Shelter for the homeless, Unemployment insurance appeals and overpayments, other emergency assistance programs. Also assist low-income households in establishing Supplemental Needs Trusts to eliminate the Medicaid spend down and assist homeless families to obtain rent supplements from DSS to enable families to leave the shelters or retain permanent housing.
