Outreach workers help establish eligibility for VA medical service and pension, develop appropriate treatment plans, and screen for community placement. Homeless veterans eligible for VA Healthcare may call for availability and screening for VA funded emergency shelter, transitional housing, and HUD section 8 voucher program. Access to all Emergency Housing for Homeless Persons Requires a Referral by a DSS office location/hotline operator. For Nassau County, please call (516)227-8519 or the evening/emergency number at (516)573-8626. For Suffolk County, please call (631)854-9517 or the evening/emergency number at (631)854-9100. If you are ineligible for DSS services, please call Long Island Coalition for the Homeless at (631)464-4314. Provides food, clothing, and shelter for the homeless on the East End of Long Island. Overnight emergency shelter is open from November 1st to April 30th. Guests are transported nightly from Maureen's Haven to an assigned host site at locations in Southampton, Southold, Riverhead, and East Hampton. The Kay Kidde Day Center, Case Manager, and Support Services are available year round at the Riverhead location. Services include: case management, housing assistance, access to healthcare providers, counseling, supportive services, programs, daytime respite, food, clothing, job training, educational opportunities, and a community garden. The Homeless Outreach Programs provide critical services to those who need it most. They include: the Summer Weekend Lunch Program, street outreach and responding to concerns about the homeless in our community, and coordinating services among providers for those individuals who are unable or reluctant to access them directly.

Provides three residential treatment facilities exclusively for veterans struggling with chemical dependency, post-traumatic stress disorder and other life challenges. They are located in Manhattan, Richmond Hill, Queens, and Ellenville NY. The Ellenville facility is dedicated to female veterans and offers gender-specific treatment at a safe and encouraging environment for women veterans. Also operates the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) which provides community-based housing assistance and support services for at-risk veterans and their families. These services include temporary financial assistance, housing counseling, legal service referrals, daily living services, personal financial planning and transportation services.

Helps participants and their families who are homeless, transition back to permanent housing within their community as quickly as possible. The RRH Program is designed to assist households in addressing and overcoming barriers to obtaining and maintaining permanent housing, thereby reducing the time they experience homelessness. Households will be assessed for initial assistance, which may include supportive services, housing supports, case management, and employment assistance, all with a focus on long-term housing retention. This program is intended for individuals and families who, after receiving temporary rental assistance (short- to medium-term support), can live independently and afford rent once the program term ends. Financial assistance will be provided to eligible households on a case-by-case basis.

Cash benefits are limited to five years in a recipient's lifetime. After five years, a Family Assistance case may continue to receive benefits if an adult is disabled and cannot work or may be required to apply for assistance through the Safety Net category.Safety Net Assistance (SNA) provides money for basic living expenses for single adults and childless couples (or families who have used up their 5-year limit of FA). Cash benefits are limited to two years in a recipient's lifeltime. After two years, the non-cash Safety Net Assistance voucher system provides benefits.Emergency Temporary Assistance through Emergency Assistance for Families (EAF) or Emergency Safety Net Assistance (ESNA) provides assistance for crisis situations including evictions, moving expenses, utility shutoffs, help with food expenses, and diversion payments to help individuals avoid the need for ongoing assistance. Individuals do not need to be on public assistance to receive Emergency Temporary Assistance.
