Offers a one-year program that prepares students as entry level automotive technicians for positions in independent repair shops, dealerships and franchise automotive facilities. This program covers the entry level tasks and knowledge required to succeed in the workplace. Students who successfully complete the Automotive and Light Repair certificate program will be able to apply the credits to Suffolk County Community Colleges Automotive Service Specialist, A.A.S. degree program. Students interested in applying to the A.A.S. degree program should strongly consider taking academic coursework in addition to the MLR required courses. All students applying to the Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair certificate program will be required to attend a mandatory program information session. Students in the Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair program will be required to have a valid driver’s license; violations resulting in points on a driver’s license abstract may impact a student’s ability to complete program cooperative course requirements.
