Provides assistance with obtaining orders of protection for survivors in the Family, Criminal and Integrated Domestic Violence Court and have LIADVA advocates in all 7 Suffolk County Police precincts. Makes sure that services are available immediately after a violent incident. Advocates educate victims about the dynamics of an abusive relationship, explain what to expect if a police report is filed, go over the options available under the law (including Orders of Protection), assist in developing a safety plan, link clients with court advocacy and shelter services as well as other community resources, available to respond to hospitals to meet with survivors when medical attention is needed.
