School-age children, their parents and teachers to age 14: orientation and travel-training instruction at school and around the community, independent living skills training at home and school, teaching Braille and adaptive computer technology and connecting to peers.Recreation outings for children and teens who are legally blind to increase their social skills, independence, confidence and self-esteemAVRE is a private, non-profit organization that serves people who are blind or visually impaired. People of all ages, from school-age children to seniors, can and do benefit from our services. We offer a range of learning, living, and working options for people experiencing vision loss. AVRE works with individuals who live in the New York counties of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Schuyler, Tioga, and Tompkins.

Rehabilitation and employment services include: on-site low vision clinic low vision center for comprehensive low vision exams and to try out, learn about and receive prescribed vision aids and opportunity to try out adaptive technology, such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS) devices, hand-held magnifiers, refreshable Braille notepads and keyboards and portable Closed Circuit TVs (CCTVs). on-site retail store with accessible aids and devices to help independent living
