Responds to any whale, porpoise, dolphin or sea turtle stranding on Long Island or in New York State. Provides medical care/assistance to live animals, and eventually releases them back into the wild when possible. Conducts post-mortems on dead animals, collects tissue samples for research/analysis and prepares skeletal remains for educational institutions. Operates stranding hotline and whale/seal/sea turtle adoption program. Publishes informational brochure.

RIVERHEAD FOUNDATION FOR MARINE RESEARCH AND PRESERVATION
Studies the marine environment off Long Island, particularly marine mammals and sea turtle populations. This includes operating the New York State Stranding Program for these endangered and protected species, as well as environmental education programs to promote conservation and stewardship of these species and their environment.
