Offers Master’s level professionals in social work and related behavioral health fields the opportunity to complete the 350 clock hour educational requirement to apply for the NYS OASAS credential in Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counseling (CASAC-T). The Postgraduate Certificate in Addictions course promotes the psychodynamic understanding of current theoretical and practical approaches to the assessment and treatment of substance use disorders. Leading experts from the addictions field will discuss: The neurobiology of addiction; Psychopharmacology; Diagnostic assessment; Motivational interviewing and Empirically based evidence treatment approaches with adolescents and adults across a broad spectrum of culturally diverse populations. Topics incorporate an integrated approach to substance use disorder and mental health comorbidity, including behavioral addictions: sex, gambling and tobacco use. The course will synthesize lecture, case presentation and classroom discussion for 45 credit hours towards the completion of the New York State CASAC requirements of addiction-specific education and training (Section 1).
