This project has two separate practice areas: The first practice area is the Human Rights Project Re-entry which helps low-income Nassau and Suffolk County residents overcome the barriers created by a criminal record for employment and reintegration into the community. Services include: Certificates of relief from civil disabilities/certificates of good conduct, Employment discrimination based on their criminal record, Housing discrimination based on their criminal record, Denial of a professional license. This project can also assist low-income individuals who have been released from general prison within the last year on matters related to housing evictions, public benefits, and consumer debt. The second practice area is the Human Rights Project LGBTQ+ which provides legal services to low-income Nassau and Suffolk County residents in the LGBTQ+ community impacted by their transgender non-conforming or non-binary status in the areas of: name and sex designation changes, housing discrimination based on their LGBTQ+ status, employment discrimination based on their LGBTQ+ status, and public benefit denials.
