Nassau, NY
Independent Protector of the Taxpayers and Residents of Nassau County. The Office monitors Nassau's budget and financial operations; Proactively advocate for government operational efficiencies and improvements on behalf of the taxpayers; Audit government departments and agencies that are doing business with county to uncover and prevent waste, fraud, and inefficiencies; Process approximately 140,000 payments to vendors; Review and approve more than 1,000 vendor contracts and approximately 2,300 purchase orders each year; Report on matters that affect Nassau's financial health and operations; Work with the administration and legislature to help the county overcome its fiscal challenges; Prepare Nassau's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, and Manage and administer payroll and health benefits for more than 8,100 active employees, 12,500 retirees and 21,800 dependents for a total of more than 42,000 covered lives.
